Speech by MEP Alexandra Geese. The truth is that the European Union brings so much light that cynics/sceptics feel threatened by. Except bigots don’t see it. Meanwhile, the cultural work that is being done by the EU more broadly is arguably history’s most stunning. It’s not just about bureaucracy, or socioeconomic pretence. Or liberal pretension. Honestly, if you feel threatened, it is because the brightest EU sparks rightfully have a valid case for undermining you via the continent’s dark fascist-tinged history. Fascism is not a valid ideology and we should have done away with it much better many years ago. People who take on the simplified “F*** fascism” rhetoric often can have success in countering reverence of the fasces, but many often go wrong in over-applying the process of simplification to history’s greatest conniving, convoluted basket cases. I do also have a message for EU insiders, though: and that is to be as respectful as possible of the light yourselves, because playing with light is exactly what anti-Western depravity thrives on.
